At Nassau County’s Sensory Garden in Wantagh Park in Long Island, New York, visitors who are visually impaired or have other physical handicaps can enjoy wide pathways with special pavement features that guide visitors to points of interest along the trail. Rough cobblestones designate textured plants to reach out and touch, while smooth concrete indicates where plants along the trail may be tasted. A waterfall spills onto the concrete for a tactile and sensory experience, and Braille and English print signs identify the 50 species of plants, flowers and trees found there.
